Established in 1955

Animal Clinic of Van Wert was established in 1955 By Harold E. Wilkin, DVM. After serving in WW2, Dr. Harold graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. With his wife, a native of Venedocia, Ohio, and Dr. Harold from Spencerville, Ohio, Van Wert was the perfect location for them to be near family and start their business. When Dr. Harold started his new Veterinary practice, he primarily did large animal medicine on family farms but also treated the family pets. As times changed and the family farm began to disappear, Animal Clinic of Van Wert evolved into a hospital for small animal medicine, dentistry, and surgery. After his son Tom graduated, he returned home to be with his family and work for his father until Dr. Harold retired and Dr. Tom bought the practice. Today, the Animal Clinic of Van Wert has two veterinarians to serve the community, Dr. Emily Early, and Dr. AJ Smith.
